PA Leader Demands Full SAPS Recruitment Breakdown
PRETORIA – Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader Gayton McKenzie has called on the South African Police Service (SAPS) to release the full demographic breakdown of its latest recruitment intake, saying the public deserves transparency on who is being appointed to the country’s police service.
The call follows the SAPS National Commemoration Day held at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on 6 September 2026, where President Cyril Ramaphosa joined police families and colleagues in honouring officers who died in the line of duty.
During the ceremony, SAPS paid tribute to 12 officers who lost their lives between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026 while serving the country.
Although the event focused on remembering fallen officers, McKenzie has used the moment to question whether recent recruitment reflects South Africa’s diverse population.
“Where are the Coloureds, Indians and Whites?” McKenzie asked, calling for SAPS to publish the exact number of recruits by race, province and gender, as well as the criteria used to select successful candidates.
