Phakelu’Mthakathi Leads Soweto Community Meetings Targeting Illegal Immigration And Local Economy
The leader of the Insizwa Nobuntsizwa Development Foundation, Nkosiikhona Phakelu’Mthakathi Ndabandaba, is heading a series of localized community meetings across Soweto on Tuesday.
The engagements aim to mobilize residents to address the presence of undocumented foreign nationals and reclaim the township’s local economy.
The first community engagement kicked off earlier today at Kwa Gogo in Zola 3, drawing local residents concerned about crime, unemployment, and the influx of illegal migration.
Addressing the gathering, Ndabandaba stated that he is ready to stand by the people of Soweto if they collectively request his support to tackle undocumented immigration.
He urged residents to unite, emphasizing that community solidarity is the only way to successfully ensure that foreign nationals residing in the country illegally return to their respective nations.
“Through unity, the community will eventually succeed in its efforts,” Ndabandaba told attendees.
He added that if the Zola community resolves to take direct action, a formal date will be set, and the South African Police Service (SAPS) will be brought in to oversee the process to ensure order.
During his address, the anti-immigration activist leveled harsh accusations against illegal foreign nationals, claiming they contribute to the socio-economic decline of South African communities.
He further alleged that some undocumented individuals are actively involved in the distribution of illegal drugs inside township neighborhoods.
The Zola meetings follow a series of high-profile, nationwide anti-immigration campaigns led by Ndabandaba under the broader “Abahambe” movement.
The movement has previously seen volatile standoffs, including recent public clashes in Soweto between Ndabandaba’s followers and local figures like Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini over territorial leadershipSoweto and the targeting of foreign-owned spaza shops.
While authorities have consistently warned against vigilantism, Ndabandaba maintained today that his new strategy focuses on localized, lawful community pressure carried out alongside law enforcement.
