Afrika Mayibuye Movement marks first anniversary with manifesto launch in Tembisa
The Afrika Mayibuye Movement is marking its first anniversary today, Saturday with the launch of its 2026 local government elections manifesto and the unveiling of its Gauteng mayoral candidates in Tembisa.
The movement was officially launched by Floyd Shivambu on 5 September 2025, following his departure from the MK Party. It has since positioned itself as a new political force ahead of the 4 November 2026 municipal elections.
Today’s event is expected to focus on jobs, water, and service delivery, with the party seeking to present its plans for municipalities across Gauteng and the rest of the country.
Mayibuye has previously said it intends to contest all wards and municipalities, with Shivambu insisting that the party is entering the elections to win rather than simply participate.
The party has not yet publicly announced all of its metro mayoral candidates, while Shivambu has not confirmed whether he will contest the Johannesburg mayoral race.
