Gauteng committee calls for water-splashing ban after Spring Day violence

Calls are growing for indiscriminate water splashing during Spring Day celebrations to be outlawed in Gauteng following incidents of violence, intimidation and property damage.

The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety says the practice has contributed to public disorder, after a 21-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death following an altercation with a man who had reportedly been splashed with water.
