STATE URGES COURT TO DENY COUPLE BAIL, BECAUSE THEY KNOW THE LAW

POLOKWANE: State strongly opposed bail for Attorney Charlotte Tibana and her husband, TMPD officer Constable Peter Nonyane, telling the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court that both accused have total disregard of the law.

In closing arguments, that is underway prosecutor Advocate Martin Molekwane criticise Tibana for allegedly requesting a meeting with Hawks’ lead investigator, Colonel Daniel Makuwa, in an attempt to halt the investigation.

Molekwane told the court that Tibana is a lawyer who knows the law and should have understood the implications of her actions.

The State further argue that repaying some of the allegedly misappropriated funds does not erase the alleged offences, saying the crimes had already been committed.

The court also heard that some transactions involving estate funds were allegedly made into different accounts in July 2026.

Molekwane urge the court to keep both accused behind bars, arguing that releasing them on bail would pose risks to the ongoing investigation.
