POLOKWANE, 29 August 2026 — Tshwane Metro Police Department officer Peter “Gagash” Nonyane and his attorney wife, Charlotte Tibane, are now facing 35 charges of fraud, theft and money laundering linked to nearly R6 million allegedly siphoned from deceased estates, as new evidence about luxury vehicles and the movement of money emerged in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.

The latest evidence was presented during the couple’s ongoing bail proceedings and significantly expands a case that initially centred on allegations involving about R1.75 million.

Senior financial investigator Andrew Ngobeni told the court that investigators had traced hundreds of thousands of rand allegedly originating from deceased estates through various accounts and payments. The State is opposing bail, while the allegations remain to be tested at trial.

R501,000 allegedly traced from deceased estate

The court heard that R501,000 linked to the estate of the late Makolobe Moetjie was transferred in April 2026.

Ngobeni testified that the money moved through another account before ultimately reaching an FNB investment account allegedly associated with Nonyane.

The Moetjie estate reportedly contained more than R1.38 million intended for its beneficiary.

Ngobeni told the court that, based on his financial investigation, the money that eventually reached the investment account could be traced back to the estate.

The Moetjie family is now among several families whose estates form part of the State’s case against the couple.

Case balloons to 35 charges

The scale of the case has changed considerably since Nonyane and Tibane first appeared in court earlier this month.

The couple now faces 35 charges, after the number of allegations increased as additional complainants came forward.

The charges include fraud, theft and money laundering and relate to several deceased estates.

According to the State, the accused allegedly made false representations concerning money held in estate accounts and transferred funds for their own benefit.

Both accused remain in custody while their bail application continues.

Luxury vehicles come under spotlight

The financial investigation has also placed several luxury vehicles under scrutiny.

Ngobeni testified that Tibane owns a 2025 Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI, purchased in August 2025 for approximately R1.58 million.

The court heard that monthly instalments on the vehicle are approximately R21,800.

Investigators also allege that around R354,000 connected to estate funds was paid to WesBank towards the Golf GTI.

Nonyane, meanwhile, reportedly owns a Mercedes-Benz V300 purchased in April 2026.

According to evidence presented in court, the vehicle carries monthly repayments of approximately R46,000.

Ngobeni alleged that a R400,000 deposit towards the Mercedes-Benz V300 was funded using money transferred from the estate of Mokgadi Moetjie.

Ford Raptor also discussed in court

Another vehicle discussed during the hearing was a Ford Raptor registered to Tibane’s sister, Rirandzu Tibane.

The court heard that the vehicle was purchased for approximately R1.86 million, with a deposit of around R600,000 allegedly paid in October 2025.

Ngobeni testified that investigators are examining whether Tibane’s sister may have been used in the alleged movement of proceeds.

That allegation has not been proven in court.

Rirandzu was also said to own a Haval purchased in May 2026 and to work as a legal officer at Tibane’s law firm.

Investigator questions reported salary information

The court also heard evidence concerning salary documentation allegedly presented when an attempt was made to purchase another Mercedes-Benz vehicle.

Ngobeni testified that a salary advice reflected income of more than R141,000 per month for Rirandzu, despite evidence that Tibane herself earned around R80,000.

The investigator told the court that the discrepancy attracted attention during the financial probe.

No finding has yet been made that the salary documentation was unlawful or fraudulent.

Mercedes-Benz G63 remains central to allegations

Earlier evidence in the case has centred on a Mercedes-Benz AMG G63, which prosecutors allege was purchased using approximately R1.65 million connected to deceased-estate funds.

Investigators allege that money was moved from estate accounts before being used in connection with the luxury vehicle purchase.

The G63 transaction became one of the key elements that initially brought wider public attention to the case.

As investigators have examined further transactions, the number of estates and charges linked to the case has continued to increase.

More complainants have come forward

Nonyane and Tibane originally faced a much smaller number of charges.

However, prosecutors have added allegations as more people reported concerns involving deceased estates handled by Tibane.

The latest court evidence indicates that investigators are now examining a complex network of payments, bank accounts, vehicle purchases and investment accounts.

The State alleges the transactions form part of a broader scheme involving money belonging to people who had died and their beneficiaries.

The accused have not been convicted and are entitled to the presumption of innocence.

Bail application postponed

The couple remains behind bars while the State continues opposing their release.

The bail hearing is expected to resume on 2 September 2026.

Investigators are also waiting for further bank records as they attempt to establish the complete flow of money allegedly connected to the affected estates.

The matter has become one of Limpopo’s most closely watched court cases, combining allegations involving deceased estates, a police officer, an attorney, luxury vehicles and millions of rand in disputed transactions.

Further evidence is expected when proceedings resume.
