Limpopo Mother Accused of Poisoning Her Two Children Due Back in Court
TSHILWAVHUSIKU, LIMPOPO – A Limpopo mother accused of administering a poisonous substance to her two young children is expected to return to the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 28 August 2026.
Ntanganedzeni Siphugu, 27, faces two counts of murder following the deaths of her children, aged six and nine, at Madabani Village outside Louis Trichardt.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the alleged incident occurred on 1 June 2026. The State alleges that Siphugu administered a poisonous substance to the children at their family home.
Both children reportedly became ill the following day. One was taken to a local clinic, where the child was declared dead. When family members returned home, the second child was also found dead.
A police investigation followed, leading to Siphugu’s arrest and appearance in the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court.
She subsequently abandoned her bail application and remains in custody. The matter was postponed to 28 August for further investigation.
The deaths sent shockwaves through the Madabani community and raised renewed concerns about family crises, child protection and access to mental-health and social-support services.
Because the victims were minors, responsible reporting requires particular sensitivity towards surviving relatives and the community. The identities or images of children involved in criminal proceedings should not be exploited for sensational coverage.
The State will be required to prove its allegations beyond a reasonable doubt if the matter proceeds to trial. Siphugu remains presumed innocent unless convicted by a court.
