Gagash and Attorney Charlotte Tibana Back in Polokwane Court as State Opposes Bail
POLOKWANE, LIMPOPO – Tshwane Metro Police Department officer Peter Nonyane, popularly known as “Gagash”, and his wife, attorney Charlotte Tibana, are expected back in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, as their formal bail application continues.
Nonyane, 36, and Tibana, 33, face allegations arising from transactions involving deceased estates. The State alleges that money was unlawfully removed from estate accounts, with part of the funds allegedly used in an attempted purchase of a luxury Mercedes-Benz AMG G63.
The allegations have attracted widespread attention because Nonyane is a metro police officer and social-media personality, while Tibana is an attorney who allegedly acted in matters involving deceased estates.
During previous proceedings, the court heard allegations that Tibana contacted a senior police officer while the matter was under investigation. A State witness alleged that she wanted the investigation closed. These allegations remain unproven and are expected to be tested during the criminal proceedings.
The State is opposing the couple’s release on bail and is expected to call two additional witnesses when proceedings resume.
A bail application does not determine whether an accused person is guilty. The court must consider factors including the seriousness of the charges, the strength of the State’s preliminary case, the risk of interference with witnesses or evidence, the likelihood of further offences and whether the accused would attend future court proceedings.
Both accused remain presumed innocent unless convicted by a court of law.
The matter is expected to attract supporters, members of the public and journalists when it resumes at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.
