Lamiez Holworthy Gets Emotional After Women’s Month Praise, Urges Women to Uplift Each Other

Lamiez Holworthy Gets Emotional After Women’s Month Praise and Calls on Women to Uplift Each Other

A heartfelt tribute to Lamiez Holworthy has left the South African DJ, radio personality and businesswoman reflecting on the 16 year journey behind her public image, her marriage to rapper Khuli Chana and the importance of women supporting one another.

The emotional exchange unfolded during Women’s Month after actress Phindile Gwala shared a message praising Holworthy for building a career and identity that stand firmly on their own, rather than being defined by her relationship with the award winning rapper.

Gwala highlighted Holworthy’s work as a DJ, radio personality and businesswoman, while also recognising her roles as a mother and wife.

More importantly, the actress challenged the tendency to introduce Holworthy primarily as Khuli Chana’s wife, pointing out that she had established her own name and career before their relationship.

In her tribute, Gwala praised Holworthy for creating her own path and building a life beyond her relationship.

“I’m not giving her flowers simply because she is beautiful. Pretty faces are everywhere. I’m giving her flowers because she built something behind hers. A career. A reputation. A life,” Gwala wrote.

The message also touched on Holworthy’s marriage to Khuli Chana, describing the couple as two individuals who appear to have maintained their own identities while building a family together.

Gwala acknowledged that outsiders could never know everything that happens behind closed doors. However, she said the couple’s public journey appeared to demonstrate a partnership where neither person needed to become smaller for the other to succeed.

For Holworthy, the words arrived at an unexpectedly emotional moment.

Lamiez Holworthy reads tribute while in pain

Holworthy responded to the tribute in the early hours of 23 August, revealing that she was awake at 02:11 and experiencing considerable physical pain when she came across the message.

She said the tribute reminded her that her influence extended far beyond the stages, cameras, microphones and boardrooms that have shaped her public career.

“At 02:11 and I am up with two hot water bottles in extreme pain and angry at my body for allowing itself to get to weak. But reading this made me realise just how blessed I am and that my impact is bigger than a stage, a camera, a mic, a boardroom,” Holworthy wrote.

Despite the difficult moment, the message prompted her to reflect on what she has built over the years.

Holworthy said she had spent 16 years building her brand from the ground up and that messages such as Gwala’s reminded her of the significance of that journey.

“It is because of messages like this from complete strangers that remind me of who I am, why I was chosen and that it is bigger than me as an individual,” she said.

Holworthy opens up about Khuli Chana and their marriage

The DJ also offered a glimpse into the relationship that she shares with Khuli Chana, whom she referred to as Khulani.

Holworthy said she knew he was the man she wanted to marry and start a family with because of how he balanced his career, academics and business interests while still making time to be a father.

She described him as her “hero” and suggested that the foundation of their relationship has allowed both partners to pursue their individual ambitions while maintaining their roles within the family.

“At home, I am his wife. His egg. But in the streets? We’re magical whether together or in our own capacity,” she said.

Her comments reinforced the central theme of Gwala’s tribute: a relationship does not necessarily have to diminish either person’s individual identity.

For Holworthy, her career and marriage appear to exist alongside each other rather than one defining the other.

Lamiez Holworthy urges women to support each other

Holworthy ended her response with a broader message directed at women.

Rather than allowing competition, criticism or insecurity to divide them, she called on women to support one another and celebrate each other’s achievements.

“I always says it’s 2026 and in case many didn’t the memo, we don’t bully, belittle or bleed on other women, instead we build, empower and fix each other’s crown,” Holworthy said.

She thanked Gwala for what she described as fixing her crown and said the tribute had moved her to tears while leaving her with a “full heart”.

The exchange offered more than another celebrity social media moment. It became a reflection on the years behind Holworthy’s public career and the identity she has built outside her marriage.

At a time when women are being encouraged to celebrate one another during Women’s Month, Holworthy’s response carried a message she appeared to take personally: recognition can arrive when someone needs it most.

For a woman who has spent 16 years building her name across entertainment, radio and business, the flowers from Gwala appeared to serve as a reminder that her impact reaches beyond the spotlight.
