Scebi ‘InkosiyamaGcokama’ Dlamini Funeral: Hundreds Gather in Msinga

Funeral

Hundreds of mourners have gathered at Mzisho Stadium in Msinga, in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal, to pay their final respects to Maskandi star Scebi Dlamini, affectionately known to his legion of fans as InkosiyamaGcokama.

The atmosphere at the stadium is one of grief and remembrance as family members, friends, fellow musicians and devastated fans come together to honour a performer whose music touched audiences across the province and beyond.

Dlamini died in the early hours of last Saturday following a horrific car accident that claimed his life and that of his dancer, Gupta Mchunu.

Mchunu was laid to rest on Friday, as family, friends and members of the music community gathered to say their final farewell.

Maskandi Community Mourns Beloved Performer

The death of Dlamini has sent shockwaves through the Maskandi community, with fans mourning the loss of an artist who had built a strong following through his music and performances.

His stage name, InkosiyamaGcokama, had become closely associated with his identity as a Maskandi performer, while his work earned him a devoted audience.

Today’s funeral service provides an opportunity for those who knew and supported him to reflect on his life, career and contribution to the South African music industry.

The service is scheduled to resume at 11:00, with mourners expected to continue gathering at Mzisho Stadium to honour the late musician.

A Final Farewell to InkosiyamaGcokama

For many fans, the gathering is more than a funeral. It is a final opportunity to stand together in remembrance of an artist whose music formed part of the soundtrack of their lives.

The loss has also been felt deeply among fellow performers and those who worked alongside Dlamini, particularly following the death of Mchunu in the same crash.

As the funeral service unfolds in Msinga, attention will turn to the tributes, memories and messages of condolence that will mark the final farewell to Scebi Dlamini.

For the hundreds gathered at Mzisho Stadium, however, the day is ultimately about remembering the man behind the music and celebrating the legacy of the Maskandi star known to many as InkosiyamaGcokama.
