Kaizer Chiefs defender Reeve Frosler admits the club is still hurting after its painful MTN8 exit. But says the players have already shifted their focus to bouncing back in the Betway Premiership.

Amakhosi were dumped out of the MTN8 in the quarterfinals. This was after suffering a shock 1-0 defeat to Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium. Khulekani Shezi scored the only goal after a costly mistake by goalkeeper Brandon Petersen gifted Arrows a famous victory.

The defeat ended Chiefs’ hopes of lifting the first trophy of the season, leaving players and supporters bitterly disappointed. Frosler admitted the result was difficult to accept. But insisted the squad cannot dwell on the setback with another important fixture around the corner.

“Ya, argh, losing the MTN8 game is not ideal, but we have to pick ourselves up,” said Frosler. Chiefs return to action on Wednesday when they host Sekhukhune United in a crucial Betway Premiership clash.

“We have Sekhukhune on Wednesday, and it is another chance for us to go out there and do what we need to do to try and get a positive result. “We are disappointed with what happened in the MTN8 game, but we have to look forward,” added Frosler.

“We have sat down as a team and discussed what we needed to, and what we need to improve on to get better. “That is what we are going to do going forward into Wednesday’s game – hopefully it is a game we can use to return things to where they should be.”

Despite their cup disappointment, Chiefs made an encouraging start to their league campaign. They beat newly promoted Kruger United 3-1 in their opening Betway Premiership match.

Fernando Da Cruz’s side will now be determined to return to winning ways. And to prove that the MTN8 defeat was only a minor setback in their quest for a successful season.
