Police Launch Manhunt After Innocent Woman Killed in Tavern Shooting in Mpumalanga
Fatal stray bullet turns night out into tragedy as police search for armed suspect
A night of socialising at a tavern in Kwaggafontein B, Mpumalanga, ended in tragedy after an innocent woman was fatally shot during a violent altercation between two men, prompting police to launch a murder investigation and an urgent manhunt for the suspected gunman.
The fatal shooting happened at approximately 10:30pm on Saturday night, according to preliminary information released by police.
Investigators believe two men became involved in an argument inside the tavern before the confrontation escalated into violence. During the altercation, one of the men allegedly drew a firearm and fired a shot.
Instead of striking the intended target, the bullet allegedly hit a woman who had no involvement in the dispute.
Emergency responders rushed the injured woman to a nearby medical facility. Despite their efforts, she was declared dead on arrival.
The shooting has left the local community shaken, with yet another innocent life lost to gun violence.
Police have identified the suspected shooter by the street name “Mashesha”. According to investigators, the suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting and remains at large.
A murder case has been opened, and detectives are continuing their investigation while intensifying efforts to locate and arrest the suspect.
