Shabalala’s whereabouts revealed as Kaizer Chiefs star resurfaces after surprise opening day absence

Mduduzi Shabalala, Kaizer Chiefs,

The mystery surrounding Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala has finally been cleared up after his unexpected absence from Amakhosi’s opening Betway Premiership victory sparked widespread speculation among supporters.

Shabalala, one of the club’s most exciting young talents and a firm fan favourite, was nowhere to be seen as Chiefs secured an impressive 3-1 win over newly promoted Kruger United on Saturday evening. His omission from the matchday squad, coupled with his absence from the stands, immediately fuelled questions about his future at Naturena.

As speculation intensified across social media, fresh reports have now revealed where the midfielder has been.

According to Soccer Beat, Shabalala travelled to Lesotho with Kaizer Chiefs’ DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) squad, which is scheduled to play a friendly match against Lifofane FC.

“Mduduzi Shabalala is said to be part of the Kaizer Chiefs DDC squad in Lesotho for a friendly against Lifofane FC,” the publication reported on Saturday night.

The revelation provides some clarity after a week of growing uncertainty surrounding the midfielder.

Shabalala recently attracted significant attention after reportedly unfollowing Kaizer Chiefs’ official social media accounts, a move that triggered intense debate among supporters and prompted renewed speculation over his long term future at the Soweto giants.

While neither the player nor the club has publicly addressed the social media activity, the incident added to concerns about his standing within the first team.

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Thuso Phala has also weighed in on the situation, expressing hope that any differences between the club and the talented midfielder can be resolved without delay.

Phala believes Shabalala remains one of the brightest prospects at Chiefs and insists the midfielder still has the quality to become a key figure in the senior squad if he is reintegrated into the first team.

For now, Shabalala’s presence with the reserve side offers the clearest indication yet of his current role within the club’s structures. However, questions remain over when, or if, he will return to the Betway Premiership squad.

With supporters eagerly awaiting answers, all eyes will be on Kaizer Chiefs and Shabalala in the coming weeks as the new season gathers momentum.
