Johannesburg Security Guard Given BMW After Viral Mocking Incident
A Johannesburg security guard who was publicly humiliated and told he would never own a BMW has experienced an extraordinary reversal of fortune after receiving the keys to one of the luxury vehicles he was once told was beyond his reach.

Teboho Kabayi, 27, who works as a security officer at a BMW dealership in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, became the centre of a viral controversy in July 2026 after a video showed him being verbally attacked while carrying out his daily duties.
The incident unfolded when Kabayi approached two men arriving at the dealership and followed standard access control procedures by asking which department they were visiting and requesting to scan a driver’s licence.
Instead of cooperating, one of the men began insulting him, repeatedly claiming to be a millionaire while belittling the security guard’s position.
During the confrontation, the man told Kabayi that he was “cheap” and claimed that he would never own or drive a BMW, regardless of how hard he worked.
Despite the harsh comments, Kabayi remained composed and continued performing his duties professionally.
The footage quickly spread across social media platforms, sparking widespread anger from South Africans who criticised the treatment of a worker simply doing his job.

Following the backlash, members of the Glen On Cars community visited the dealership to show their support for Kabayi.
The group raised approximately R31,900 in donations for the security guard, providing financial assistance at a time when he had unexpectedly found himself in the national spotlight.
Kabayi revealed that he had dreams of opening his own bakery and planned to use the money towards building that future. He also said he intended to donate a portion of the funds to charity.
Rather than responding with anger towards the people who insulted him, Kabayi chose forgiveness.
His calm response and positive attitude further inspired many people who followed the story.
Security Company Delivers Life Changing Surprise
The story took another remarkable turn on 29 and 30 July when cybersecurity and integrated security company ScaryByte stepped forward with an even bigger gesture.
The company surprised Kabayi by gifting him a BMW 1 Series, along with an additional R30,000 cheque to help with vehicle maintenance and support his bakery ambitions.
Sharing images from the emotional handover on social media, ScaryByte wrote: “Someone said he won’t be able to afford a BMW! He totally owns one!”
The gift transformed the very symbol that had been used to humiliate Kabayi into a reminder of his perseverance and the support he received from strangers.

After receiving the vehicle, Kabayi described himself as overwhelmed by the unexpected kindness.
