AmaZulu snap up highly-rated Pirates talent Neo Mokoena
AmaZulu FC have completed the signing of highly-rated winger Neo Mokoena, with the 23-year-old joining Usuthu ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
Mokoena arrives from Orlando Pirates, where he was regarded as one of the country’s brightest young prospects despite not breaking into the senior team.
The Pretoria-born attacker developed through the Mamelodi Sundowns academy before further sharpening his game in the DStv Diski Challenge and ABC Motsepe League.
He now gets an opportunity to showcase his talent under AmaZulu head coach Arthur “Phakimpi” Zwane.
The move has already generated excitement, with SuperSport TV DDC presenter Karabo Phasha describing Mokoena as one of South Africa’s top young talents.
“AmaZulu have signed a top top talent in Neo Mokoena from Orlando Pirates. He is arguably one of the most naturally talented players in the land,” wrote Phasha.
Mokoena says he is eager to repay the faith shown in him.
“I’m grateful to join AmaZulu and thankful to the club for giving me this opportunity,” he said.
“The atmosphere at training has been amazing. The guys have welcomed me really well, and the intensity is on another level. It’s my first time competing at this level, so I’ll continue working hard and pushing myself every day.”
The exciting winger believes his dribbling ability and pace will help him make an impact.
“I’m finding my feet with my new teammates bit by bit. My goal is to help the team in every way I can. I’m a winger who enjoys taking on defenders. Dribbling is one of my biggest strengths, and I have good pace. I enjoy expressing myself on the ball, and that gives me confidence.“
Mokoena also thanked AmaZulu chairman Sandile Zungu and everyone involved in bringing him to Durban.
