Orlando Pirates have officially announced the signing of highly-rated midfielder Thapelo Mokobodi from Stellenbosch FC, adding another exciting talent to their squad ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
The Buccaneers confirmed on Wednesday that the 23-year-old has signed a three-year contract and has already linked up with the rest of the squad as preparations continue for the new campaign.
Mokobodi becomes the latest addition to Abdeslam Ouaddou’s squad as Pirates continue strengthening the team following the departures of several key players during the off-season.
Speaking after completing the move, an excited Mokobodi said joining the Soweto giants is a dream opportunity and promised to give everything for the club.
“I am pleased to be here and look forward to meeting the rest of the team,” he said.
“It’s a big opportunity to play for such a club and I am ready to get going. I would like to make a meaningful contribution to this great institution.”
Pirates have handed the midfielder the number 33 jersey for the upcoming season. The number was used by Lebone Seema last season.
Supporters will now be eager to see whether Mokobodi can make an immediate impact as the Buccaneers prepare to launch another challenge for the Betway Premiership title, domestic cup honours and the CAF Champions League.
