Ndlovu breaks silence after controversial Sundowns move
New Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Siyanda Ndlovu says he is delighted to have finally found a new home after completing his controversial move to the Brazilians.
The former Golden Arrows star was widely expected to join Orlando Pirates after the two clubs reportedly reached an agreement. However, Ndlovu turned down the move at the final stages before signing for Sundowns.
Speaking on Sundowns’ The Pitchside Podcast, the midfielder said he preferred to focus on his future rather than the transfer saga.
“I am really happy that at last, I got a home. There were lots of talks about my future but now I have a home,” said Ndlovu.
He revealed that his grandmother and mother were the first people he informed when he learned of Sundowns’ interest.
“The first person I told was my grandmother and my mom – my family basically. I told them that I had received a call about something like this.”
Ndlovu admitted there is pressure at the Tshwane giants but said he is excited by the opportunity to compete in top competitions.
“There is pressure. But I am happy that I will now get to play in such prestigious tournaments and compete at the highest level.”
The midfielder also welcomed the challenge of playing up to 60 or 65 matches a season.
“It is exactly where I want to be. When you talk about playing, that is me – at any time and anywhere,” he added.
Ndlovu said he confident of making at at Sundowns, and that his confidence comes from his rural upbringing.
“I am a Zulu man. We were raised with the mentality that you must not allow other boys to dominate you in anything.”
The 23-year-old also named Sundowns captain Themba Zwane as his football idol.
He revealed that after being converted from a winger into a No. 10 by coach Manqoba Mngqithi at Golden Arrows, he studied Zwane’s game closely.
“I watched Zwane a lot. I thought of Mshishi because he excels in that position, and I look up to him a lot.”
