Gagasi FM Wins Six Awards in 2026 as Radio Station Celebrates 20 Years in KZN
KwaZulu Natal’s Gagasi FM has reached a landmark moment in its 20 year broadcasting journey, securing six major awards in 2026 and strengthening its position as one of the province’s most influential radio stations.
The station, known as “The Sound of KZN”, celebrated a breakthrough at the Best of Durban Readers’ Choice Awards 2026 after claiming five accolades across radio personality, station and programming categories. The achievement marked the first time Gagasi FM has converted its years of nominations into wins at the community driven awards.
The historic recognition comes during a significant year for the station, which is celebrating two decades of connecting with listeners across KwaZulu Natal through music, entertainment, storytelling and community initiatives.
Gagasi FM emerged victorious in one of the most competitive categories, with Selbeyonce Mkhize named Best Local Radio Personality. The station also achieved strong results across other categories, reflecting the popularity of its presenters and programmes among listeners.
The station’s award haul at the Best of Durban Readers’ Choice Awards included:
- Best Local Radio Personality: Selbeyonce Mkhize, Winner
- Best Local Radio Personality: Felix Hlophe, Second Place
- Best Local Radio Station: Gagasi FM, Second Place
- Best Local Radio Show: The Uprising, Second Place
- Best Local Radio Show: The Gagasi FM Fastlane, Third Place
Representatives from the Best of Durban Readers’ Choice Awards visited the Gagasi FM studios to personally deliver the certificates, creating a special moment for the station’s team and presenters.
Managing Director Minenhle Dlamini accepted the station and individual awards on behalf of Gagasi FM and Selbeyonce Mkhize. Felix Hlophe and DJ Naves, representing The Gagasi FM Fastlane, also accepted their respective honours.

Gagasi FM was honoured with the Partnership Award alongside the Hollywood Foundation for their ongoing Corporate Social Investment initiatives.
The award acknowledges their collaboration since 2023, which has focused on creating meaningful social change through community driven programmes.
Among these initiatives are the Geleza Ne Gagasi Adopt A School campaign and the Gagasi FM Christmas Miracle, projects designed to support schools, families and communities throughout KwaZulu Natal.
