Prince Kaybee Rejects R500,000 Fight Offer From Cassper Nyovest, Demands R3 Million
The long-running feud between Prince Kaybee and Cassper Nyovest could have exploded inside a boxing ring. Instead, it has hit a financial dead end.
For the first time, award-winning DJ and producer Kabelo “Prince Kaybee” Motsamai has revealed why a much-anticipated celebrity boxing clash with rapper Refiloe “Cassper Nyovest” Phoolo never materialised. According to Prince Kaybee, the fight fell apart because the money on the table simply was not worth it.
Speaking during an interview on YFM with Ayanda MVP and Sinaye Kotobe, the Banomoya hitmaker disclosed that Cassper’s team approached him with an offer to compete in the rapper’s celebrity boxing event, Celeb City Boxing Match.
Prince Kaybee said he rejected the proposed R500,000 purse, describing it as far below what he believes a fight of that magnitude should command.
“They said they would give me half a million (R500,000). I would not train for half a million. They should offer me at least R3 million,” he said.
The proposed bout was fuelled by years of public exchanges and social media clashes between the two music stars. As their online rivalry intensified, fans repeatedly called for the pair to settle their differences in the boxing ring instead of on social media.
Prince Kaybee made it clear that money remains the only obstacle standing in the way of the contest.
“I am fit enough,” he said.
“Unfortunately, Cassper will never reach my level. Even our weights do not match.”
His comments suggest he remains open to the fight, provided the financial package reflects what he considers the value of such a high-profile showdown.
At the time of publication, efforts to obtain comment from Cassper Nyovest were unsuccessful.
Cassper’s Celebrity Boxing Journey
Cassper Nyovest launched his celebrity boxing venture in December 2021 when he faced YouTube personality Slik Talk in a highly publicised event dubbed Fame vs Clout at the Sandton Fight Club in Johannesburg.
Cassper dominated the contest from the opening bell, forcing the referee to stop the fight in the third round as Slik Talk struggled to defend himself.
In April 2022, Cassper stepped back into the ring against musician and actor Anga “NaakMusiQ” Makubalo at the Sun City Superbowl in North West. After a competitive contest, the judges awarded the victory to NaakMusiQ, handing Cassper the first defeat of his celebrity boxing career.
Later that year, in October 2022, Cassper fought rapper Ricardo “Priddy Ugly” Moloi at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria. Cassper emerged victorious after Priddy Ugly was stopped early in the contest.
Since then, Cassper has attempted to arrange further celebrity bouts. He publicly challenged Maskandi musician Mthandeni SK, but the fight never progressed after no formal agreement was reached between the camps.
The rapper also repeatedly challenged the late Kiernan “AKA” Forbes before the award-winning musician was tragically killed in February 2023. A fight between the two rivals never came to fruition.
For now, South African fans hoping to see Prince Kaybee and Cassper Nyovest settle their long-standing rivalry in the ring will have to wait. If Prince Kaybee’s latest comments are anything to go by, the fight is not off the table. It simply comes with a significantly higher price tag.
