Award-winning Amapiano heavyweight Kabza De Small has been forced to withdraw from a highly anticipated performance in Nairobi, Kenya, after falling seriously ill, leaving thousands of fans disappointed just hours before the event.

The music producer and DJ, whose real name is Kabelo Motha, was scheduled to headline The Darque Experience on Saturday, 11 July 2026. However, his management, Lawk Communications, confirmed that he would no longer be travelling due to health reasons.

The announcement sent shockwaves through the Amapiano community, with fans expressing concern over the hitmaker’s condition while organisers scrambled to address the unexpected setback.

In a statement released by his team, Kabza apologised to fans, event organisers and sponsors for his absence.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, I was unable to perform at The Darque Experience in Nairobi, Kenya, scheduled for 11 July 2026.

“I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused to the event organisers, their sponsors, and especially my supporters. I truly appreciate the support and understanding, and I’m looking forward to seeing you all soon.”

While the statement did not disclose the nature of his illness, organisers later confirmed that the award-winning producer was unwell and unable to travel.

DJ Darque, who organised the event, addressed disappointed fans in a heartfelt message on social media, revealing that the situation was beyond anyone’s control.

“My sincere apologies to the people of Nairobi. I come bearing not so good news. We have just found out that my brother Kabza De Small is really unwell, so much so that he won’t be able to make it to tonight’s dance.

“This is truly beyond our control and we have tried everything we could to get him here. I am sorry, guys. I am as gutted as you are.

“Get well, Motha. Not all is lost though, as I have a special surprise to try and make it up to the people of Nairobi. More on that shortly.”

The news comes as Kabza De Small continues to enjoy his status as one of Amapiano’s most influential figures, with sold out performances across Africa and a loyal fan base that stretches far beyond South Africa’s borders.

His withdrawal from the Nairobi event is expected to disappoint fans who had eagerly anticipated seeing one of the genre’s biggest stars perform live.

For now, supporters across South Africa and the rest of the continent will be hoping the celebrated producer makes a full and speedy recovery before returning to the stage.
