Arrest Made in Murder of North West Activist Thato Molosankwe | Police to Reveal Breakthrough

Thato Molosankwe

A significant breakthrough has been made in the investigation into the murder of prominent North West activist Thato Molosankwe, with police confirming that a suspect has been arrested.

The development marks the first major step forward in a case that sent shockwaves through communities across the province after Molosankwe was shot dead in his own home earlier this year.

Molosankwe was killed during the early hours of 20 May 2026 when gunmen opened fire on him in a brutal attack at his residence. His death sparked widespread concern and renewed calls for justice as residents and supporters mourned the loss of a well known community activist.

Following the murder, Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Dr Ryno Naidoo established a dedicated investigative team from the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit to track down those responsible.

The specialised team has been working to uncover the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting, and the latest arrest represents a major breakthrough in the investigation.

Police have not yet released the identity of the suspect or disclosed the charges that may be brought. More information is expected during a media briefing scheduled for 14:15, where Major General Dr Ryno Naidoo will address journalists on the latest developments in the case.

Authorities are expected to provide further details on the investigation, the arrest and the next steps in the legal process.

The investigation remains ongoing.
