Relebohile Mofokeng completes Union Saint Gilloise transfer as Sebelebele predicts Premier League or La Liga move
A new chapter has begun for one of South African football’s brightest young stars, and those who know him best believe Europe is only the beginning.
Former Orlando Pirates teammate Kamogelo Sebelebele has welcomed Relebohile Mofokeng’s long awaited move to Belgian powerhouse Union Saint Gilloise, insisting the gifted playmaker is destined to reach football’s biggest stages.
The 21 year old has officially completed a four year deal with the Belgian club, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable spell with Orlando Pirates. During his rise, Mofokeng established himself as one of the Premier Soccer League’s most exciting talents, earning widespread admiration for his fearless attacking style and remarkable creativity.
For Sebelebele, the transfer comes as no surprise.
“You know what, there is no one who deserves it more than him,” Sebelebele said.
“He has done everything he could here in Mzansi, so now he is going to get new competition and show those people what he is made of. I am very happy for him.”
The move has been widely viewed as a significant milestone in Mofokeng’s career, with many believing the Belgian Pro League offers the ideal platform for young African stars to develop before making the leap to Europe’s elite competitions.
Sebelebele is convinced that Belgium will not be Mofokeng’s final destination.
In a confident prediction, he said the talented midfielder has all the qualities needed to earn a move to either the English Premier League or Spain’s La Liga within the next two seasons.
“I am sure that after one or two seasons he will graduate to England or Spain. He deserves to play there,” he said.
Known for his composure, close control and ability to unlock stubborn defences, Mofokeng has built a reputation as one of South Africa’s most naturally gifted footballers. His performances for Orlando Pirates made him a fan favourite and earned him the nickname “President Yama2K”.
Sebelebele believes supporters at Union Saint Gilloise are about to witness exactly why the young star has generated so much excitement.
“He will obviously show them when he has the ball. He will make a plan. He will open spaces where they are closed.”
As Mofokeng embarks on his European adventure, expectations are already growing that Belgium will serve as a launchpad rather than a final destination.
If his development continues on its current trajectory, Sebelebele believes it will only be a matter of time before the South African sensation takes his place in one of Europe’s biggest leagues.
