Malema Breaks Silence After Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla’s Dramatic Expulsion from MK Party

A political storm erupted on Thursday after the Umkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) expelled Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, the daughter of former President Jacob Zuma, triggering reactions across South Africa’s political landscape.

Among the first high-profile figures to respond was Julius Malema, who publicly expressed sympathy for Zuma-Sambudla following her removal from the party her father now leads.

The expulsion marks a significant development within the MK Party, a movement that has been at the centre of South Africa’s increasingly turbulent political environment.

MK Party Expels Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla and Former Spokesperson

Zuma-Sambudla was expelled alongside former MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela.

The decision was announced by MK Party Secretary-General Sibonelo Nomvalo, who said the party had acted following incidents involving misconduct and actions that allegedly violated the party’s constitution.

The expulsions immediately drew public attention, given Zuma-Sambudla’s prominent role within the organisation and her close association with the party’s leadership.

Malema Offers Words of Support

Shortly after news of the expulsion broke, Malema took to social media platform X to share a message directed at Zuma-Sambudla.

“There is nothing new in this, you too have been watching it happen. I will not ask you to be strong during this time because I know that you are strong and courageous,” Malema wrote.

His comments quickly gained traction online, adding another layer to an already highly charged political moment.

While Malema did not directly comment on the MK Party’s decision itself, his message signalled support for Zuma-Sambudla as she faces one of the most significant setbacks of her political career.

Zuma-Sambudla Says Her Legacy Cannot Be Erased

Zuma-Sambudla also broke her silence following the announcement, insisting that her contribution to the party remains part of its history regardless of her membership status.

In a strongly worded social media post, she stated that while the party could remove her as a member, it could never erase her role in its formation.

“They can expel me as a member of the party and strip me of my membership, but they can never erase it from the history of the party that I am one of its founders,” she said.

Her remarks highlight what could become a deeper political and personal dispute within the organisation in the weeks ahead.

A New Chapter in MK Party Turmoil

The expulsion of one of the party’s most recognisable figures is likely to intensify scrutiny of internal tensions within the MK Party.

For many supporters and political observers, the development raises fresh questions about leadership, party discipline and the future direction of the organisation founded around the influence of former President Jacob Zuma.

As reactions continue to pour in, the fallout from Thursday’s decision is expected to remain a major talking point in South African politics, with attention now focused on what comes next for both Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla and the MK Party.
