LIMPOPO PREMIER HOLDS A MEETING WITH MODJADJI TRADITIONAL COUNCIL AMID COURT BATTLES

Limpopo Premier

MODJADJI: Provincial Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba held talks with the Modjadji Traditional Council amid tensions.

Premier was accompanied by the MEC of Coghsta Biskop Makamu, Public Works and Infrastructure MEC Ernest Rachoene, ANC Norman Mashabane, Chairperson Dagma Mamanyoha, ANC Provincial Secretary Reuben Madadzhe, Deputy _ Secretary Pule Shayi, Provincial Treasurer Eddie Maila, and Regional Secretary Sonia Ngobeni Maswanganyi.

The meeting was prompted by the Pretoria High Court interdict to halt Provincial Premier Dr. Ramathuba and MEC Makamu from closing the tribal offices.

The matter was brought to the High Court by former regent Prince Mpapatla Modjadji.

Modjadji Traditional Council offices have been at the center of closures and disputes due to the ongoing succession battle for the Balobedu throne and leadership agreements.

Conflict erupted when President Cyril Ramaphosa formally recognized Queen Masalanabo Modjadji VII as the Monarch on 23 December 2024.

Royal Council later challenged the decision, claiming her brother, Prince Lekukela Modjadji, is the rightful heir

It is alleged that the Royal Council refused to engage the ANC PEC delegate members on Monday ( 25 May 2026) and requested the presence of Premier Ramathuba and MEC Makamu instead.

She acknowledged the provincial administrative pitfalls and assured the Royal Council to activate the office operational systems of the Royal Council with immediate effect.

Ramathuba said certain information can not be disclosed in public. It is between the provincial government and the Royal Council.

It was not revealed if Prince Lekukela Modjadji had ever demanded a similar car ( X5 BMW) bought for Queen Masalanabo Modjadji VII by MEC Makamu last month ( April 2026).
