Two suspected armed robbers were shot and fatally wounded during a shootout with police in Sydenham, outside Durban in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), on Thursday afternoon.
KZN SAPS Spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said police officers witnessed a robbery in progress along Burnwood Road, where three suspects driving a white Kia sedan were robbing a man of his belongings.
“Police reacted, and upon realising the presence of the police, the suspects drove off. The suspects’ vehicle collided with a minibus taxi, which they then abandoned.”During the confrontation, a shootout ensued between the police and the suspects.
“Two suspects were shot and fatally wounded, and one was arrested,” he said.
Netshiunda said the arrested suspect will face charges of armed robbery and attempted murder of police officers.
No police officers were injured during the shootout.
