Nhlanhla “Kilimanjaro” Tyira is officially back on the path to global boxing glory. Ground Up Sports Promotion has confirmed that Tyira will challenge the undefeated Nhlakanipho Kunene (8-0) for the vacant IBO World Minimumweight Title.
The high-stakes showdown is set for 23 May 2026 at the iconic Jan Smuts Stadium in East London.
The bout serves as a co-main event for “The Last Sting of the Wasp,” a landmark evening for South African boxing.
The night will be headlined by the emotional farewell fight of legend Xolisani “Nomeva” Ndongeni, who concludes his storied career against Sanele Msimanga.
Promoter Loyiso Magqaza believes this matchup is the perfect platform for Tyira’s resurgence.
“Nhlanhla Tyira has been working tirelessly,” Magqaza said. “This opportunity is not by chance — it’s earned.
“We are fully aware of the challenge Kunene brings; an undefeated record speaks volumes.”
Magqaza added that the event is designed to honor the sport’s legacy. “With Tyira fighting for a world title and Ndongeni closing his career, we are delivering a night South African boxing will remember for years to come.”
