A Polokwane Magistrate court has sentenced two officers for four years of imprisonment with two years suspension for soliciting a R1000.00 bribe from a suspect’s family in 2023.
According to the Limpopo police the officers _Rapi Prince Sekopana ( 52) and Thabang Brian Ledwaba ( 32), responded to a complaint of possession of suspected stolen property at Ga_ Molekane village.
It is believed that the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody by the officers, who later solicited a bribe from the suspect sister in order to release him.
The matter was heard in court that the sister paid the officers R500.00 at N11 road as instructed.
The suspect was released and dropped off at Mahwelereng Mall, where members of the community apprehended and taken him to a nearby police station.
The duo, stationed at Mahwelereng police station, were investigated and arrested in 2024 by the Provincial Anti_ Corruption Unit.
Provincial police Commissioner Lt General Thembi Hadebe says the conviction sends a strong message that no one is above the law and police will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who undermine the integrity of SAPS are held accountable.
