Former Orlando Pirates star, Mohau Nkota has sparked a social media frenzy after being seen wearing the Kaizer Chiefs kit.
Amakhosi are the Buccaneers’ biggest rivals in local football, and players who cross the divide are usually seen as disloyal.
It started when a photo surfaced of him arriving at training at his new club, Al Ettifaq, wearing an Amakhosi shirt.
Later, a video emerged showing Nkota chatting with a colleague while still sporting the Chiefs colors.
In the video, the player is seen dancing while the person filming him shouts his name in encouragement.
While this isn’t a “crime” — as he may have been gifted the jersey by a friend at Chiefs — it has not sat well with some Pirates fans, who have accused him of being a “traitor.”
Fans expressed their disappointment, noting that:
They have never seen him promote Pirates in Saudi Arabia by wearing their kit.
They feel this shows a lack of loyalty to the club that scouted him from the Northern Cape and gave him a bright future in football.
Nkota is one of the youngsters produced by the Buccaneers’ youth academy, which has been highly praised for its recent success.
