Serious allegations have emerged after Vuyo Zungula, leader of the African Transformation Movement, conducted an inspection in Newcastle.
According to Zungula, several Chinese-owned textile factories were found to be involved in shocking labour violations that raise major concerns about workers’ rights and workplace safety in South Africa. 🇿🇦
During the inspection, Zungula alleged that factories were:
⚠️ Paying workers as little as R50 per week
⚠️ Employing minors and undocumented workers
⚠️ Failing to pay UIF contributions
⚠️ Forcing workers to live and work in unsafe conditions
⚠️ Operating while some owners are allegedly in the country illegally
Zungula also accused factory owners of tax evasion while benefiting from public infrastructure, calling on South Africans to speak out against what he described as systemic exploitation.
This developing story has sparked debate across the country about labour law enforcement, worker protection, and accountability in South Africa’s manufacturing sector.
