In a heartbreaking turn of events early on Saturday morning, a 56-year-old teacher was arrested after a shooting that left his 45-year-old girlfriend dead and her 22-year-old daughter wounded in Elukwatini.
It happened around 2:10 a.m., when police rushed to the scene following reports of gunfire. They found the young woman outside on the street, nursing a gunshot wound to her foot. She explained that her mother’s boyfriend had shot her, and that her mom had also been hit inside the house.
When officers went in, they discovered the mother on the floor in a pool of blood, with a fatal wound to her head. Paramedics arrived but could only confirm she had passed away. Her daughter was quickly taken to the hospital for care.
The man was still inside the home and was taken into custody right away. Authorities seized the gun thought to be involved.
He’s set to face charges of murder and attempted murder in court soon.
This kind of violence, especially against women, is deeply concerning and needs to stop. People going through tough times should reach out for help instead of turning to harm.
Investigations are still underway.
