Popular Ekurhuleni councillor and well-known TV personality Xolani Khumalo is set to voluntarily surrender to the South African Police Service (SAPS) today, Monday, January 19.
ActionSA, the party he represents, announced that Khumalo will hand himself in following reports of a planned arrest linked to an alleged assault. The party says this stems from an incident during a 2025 police raid in Katlehong, where Khumalo was present as officers searched the home of a suspected drug dealer. Police reportedly found unlicensed ammunition and arrested the individual but the suspect was later released without going to court, and the ammunition was allegedly given back.
According to ActionSA, the same person then filed what the party calls a false assault charge against Khumalo, and police are now moving forward with it. The party’s national chairperson, Michael Beaumont, described the situation as part of a bigger problem.
Beaumont explained that Khumalo learned about the possible arrest through public reports and leaks from within the police. He immediately reached out to arrange a meeting with SAPS to understand their plans. After discussions, Khumalo decided to come forward voluntarily.
The party believes this is retaliation against Khumalo for his strong stance against crime in Ekurhuleni. Khumalo has become a household name through TV shows where he confronts alleged drug dealers and shines a light on criminal networks.
ActionSA claims the suspect involved is tied to a larger drug-dealing operation that may include some police members, something they say Khumalo is helping proper authorities to investigate.
