The ANC in the North West will implement the step aside rule in the two senior members from Bojanala Region who were arrested in Menylyn Main Shopping centre who are facing charges of extortion.
The pair Raymond Nchane Moraile who is the Regional Secretary and Peter Phaswana Lehong who is the member of the mayoral council for Public Safety and Ward 2 in Madibeng Local Municipality from Bojanala Region in the North West were arrested in Menylyn in Pretoria on Thursday.
The pair was arrested with their driver Menzi Mgangi.
The trio, Mngadi (42) driver, Legong (39), Ward Councillor at Madibeng Municipality and Mogaile Regional Secretary (40) from Madibeng Municipality in Brits appeared at the Pretoria Magistrates court following their arrest by the Anti-Corruption Investigation, Head Office of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI).
ANC in the North West Spokesperson Tumelo Maruping confirmed and noted the recent arrests effected by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (DPCI) involving Moraile and Legong on allegations of extortion.
“The ANC reaffirms its unwavering commitment to ethical leadership, organizational renewal, and the fight against corruption. In line with the resolutions of the 54th National Conference and the organization’s Integrity and Step-Aside guidelines, the ANC will implement the step-aside rule as it relates to the affected comrades.
Maruping further said Moraile and Cllr. Legong are expected to appear in court on Monday.
“The ANC will continue to monitor developments in the matter while allowing due legal processes to unfold without interference.The organization remains committed to upholding its values, ensuring accountability, and protecting the integrity of the movement,” said Maruping.
