South African rapper Shebeshxt – real name Lehlogonolo Chauke – and it’s a heavy one. The Lekompo hit‑maker appeared in the Polokwane magistrate’s court this week for a bail hearing, and the details that came out were pretty shocking.
The investigating officer, W/O Phaladi Makola of the Limpopo police unit, told the court that the man Shebeshxt allegedly shot spent
four days in a coma and is still in hospital after the incident on 19 Octobe. Makola also confirmed that the musician doesn’t have a firearm licence a point that will surely weigh heavily on the case
Two fans in a Nissan spotted Shebeshxt driving a blue VW on Witklip Street in Ladanna and tried to say hello.
The rapper allegedly responded with the phrase “Kgane a le tlale ka roughly “You don’t respect me or don’t know who I am.”
He then pulled out a gun and fired. The bullet smashed the rear window of the Nissan, bounced off the driver’s headrest and hit the passenger in the cheek
Shebeshxt is now facing nine charges including attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and assault His lawyer, Lot Ramusi, asked the court for R50 000 bail arguing that Chauke is the sole breadwinner for his unemployed parents and partner and poses no danger to the community. The state, however, is firmly opposing bail, and the magistrate postponed the hearing to December
Adding to the pressure, some of the original complainants tried to withdraw their statements on the day of the hearing, but the prosecution still pushed for the case to continue
So, for now
Shebeshxt remains in custody, and the legal battle is far from over. We’ll keep an eye on any updates – especially whether the court decides to grant bail or keep him behind bars until the trial. Stay tuned!
