Pretoria’s city centre was thrown into darkness on Wednesday morning after a major power outage hit key parts of the capital just days before the G20 Summit. The blackout affected several neighbourhoods, including Groenkloof, Arcadia, Sunnyside, Berea, Muckleneuk, UNISA, and even the Union Buildings.

According to the City of Tshwane, technicians were immediately sent out to assess the situation, and power was restored shortly afterward. The cause of the outage is still under investigation.
The timing of the blackout raised concerns because the city is preparing to host global leaders. Just last week, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi assured residents that there would be no disruptions to water or electricity supply during the summit. He said the City had intensified its service delivery efforts to ensure smooth operations throughout the event.
For now, electricity has been restored, and officials say plans for the G20 Summit remain on track.
