Paystack has suspended its Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, after allegations of sexual misconduct involving someone who once worked under him surfaced online.
The issue erupted on social media when an individual who previously had a personal relationship with Olubi shared a detailed post accusing him of inappropriate behaviour. The post quickly drew public attention, with many users revisiting old tweets Olubi wrote years ago—tweets that contained sexually suggestive remarks, including comments made about colleagues and minors. These resurfaced posts sparked widespread criticism and a renewed conversation about accountability and how past online behaviour can resurface unexpectedly.
As reactions intensified, Olubi deactivated his X account. Meanwhile, the company confirmed that it had launched a formal investigation into the matter.
In a brief statement, Paystack said it was taking the allegations seriously and had immediately suspended Olubi from all official duties while the probe continues. The company added that it would not comment further until the investigation is completed, emphasising the need to respect everyone involved and maintain the integrity of the process.
Ezra Olubi co-founded Paystack in 2015 alongside Shola Akinlade. The fintech company quickly became one of Nigeria’s major payment platforms, later expanding across Africa. It was the first Nigerian startup accepted into Y Combinator, and in 2020 it was acquired by global payments company Stripe in a landmark deal worth over $200 million.
Olubi played a major role in building the technical foundation that powered Paystack’s rapid growth, serving thousands of businesses across the continent. Now, as the investigation unfolds, the future of his involvement in the company remains uncertain.
