Earlier today, ActionSA’s Mayoral Candidate for Ekurhuleni, Xolani Khumalo, responded to community appeals and personally apprehended and handed over to the police a drug dealer who had been selling drug-laced baked goods to minors in Etwatwa.
Reports indicate that the perpetrator sold the drug-laced products yesterday, and today several minors fell ill after consuming them, prompting an immediate response from community members. Five children were rushed to the Phillip Moyo Clinic for urgent medical treatment.
When confronted, the suspect brazenly admitted that selling these products was his “means of making a living.”
ActionSA is committed to cleaning up communities and protecting South Africa’s youth from the scourge of drugs and criminal exploitation. This incident once again underscores the urgent need for stronger community vigilance, proactive policing and decisive action to combat the spread of drugs in our communities.
ActionSA’s mission to fix Ekurhuleni is anchored in our 10-Point Action Plan, which includes dismantling drug syndicates and bringing criminals to justice. Those who undermine the rule of law have no place in our society. If we are to truly fix Ekurhuleni, this culture of impunity must end.
