A devastating fuel tanker explosion in Niger State has left at least 31 people dead and 17 others injured. The incident happened in the Bida area when a tanker carrying gasoline overturned, spilling fuel onto the road. As residents rushed to collect the leaking fuel, a sudden explosion erupted, engulfing the area in flames.

Authorities have launched an investigation to identify the truck’s driver and owner, as well as determine the cause of the accident. The state governor, Umaru Bago, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, warning residents against the dangerous act of scooping fuel from fallen tankers.

This heartbreaking incident adds to a growing list of similar accidents in the region, often linked to poor road conditions and the increasing desperation caused by high fuel prices. Earlier this year, nearly 100 people lost their lives in a similar explosion in Niger State.
