Authorities have launched an urgent investigation following the fatal shooting of Constable Raymond Mzwakhe Khoza, a police officer from the Brakpan visible policing division, who was gunned down outside his home in Tsakane in the early hours of Friday.
According to the Hawks, Khoza received a call around 12:45 a.m. from a neighbour asking for help after unknown men began assaulting residents at a nearby house. When Khoza went to check on the situation, the suspects reportedly opened fire as he approached the gate. Injured, Khoza tried to run back home but collapsed from gunshot wounds.
The attackers fled the scene, taking his service firearm with them.
The ANC caucus in Ekurhuleni strongly condemned the killing, calling it “a brutal attack on a servant of the people,” and urged law enforcement agencies to work together to track down the perpetrators. Chief Whip Sizakele Masuku appealed to residents to assist investigators with any information that could help solve the case.
“No society can defeat crime by remaining silent in the face of such evil,” Masuku said, stressing the importance of recovering the stolen firearm and ensuring justice is served.
She added that criminals must not be allowed to terrorize communities or undermine the authority of the state. The caucus reaffirmed its support for all initiatives aimed at improving community safety and protecting police officers who risk their lives to serve the nation.
