Five suspects, including four police officers from Limpopo, have been remanded in custody after appearing in the Mashishing Magistrate’s Court in connection with a major house robbery in Mpumalanga.
The group — identified as Senama Sarafina (35), Huma Malesela Daniel (34), Shogole Lesiba Lucky (41), Ledwaba Macdonald (34), and civilian Komane Johannes (29) — allegedly carried out the attack using police-marked vehicles. Investigators recovered R950,000 in cash, illicit cigarettes valued at R1.5 million, and ammunition.

Authorities say the robbery targeted Ethiopian nationals living in Mashishing (Lydenburg). The suspects reportedly stormed the house at night while the victims were asleep, using three vehicles — including a SAPS-marked VW Golf GTI, a grey Toyota double-cab, and another vehicle believed to be a Suzuki or Avanza — to transport the stolen goods.
Two Ethiopian nationals linked to the illicit cigarette consignment, identified as Daniel Anshiso Wikillo (38) and Temasgen Shagane Aleyo (33), also appeared in court and remain in custody pending further hearings.
Police have condemned the involvement of serving officers in the crime, reaffirming their zero-tolerance stance against corruption. The Hawks have launched a full investigation into the robbery and the suspected abuse of police resources.
