A tense standoff unfolded in Mamelodi East, Tshwane, on Tuesday morning after a police constable allegedly held members of his own family hostage.
The incident began around 8 a.m. in the Buffer Zone area, where the officer reportedly fired two shots before law enforcement arrived. His grandmother, nephew, and another young boy are among those being held inside the home.
Special police task forces and trained negotiators rushed to the scene and have been engaging with the constable in an effort to safely resolve the situation. Authorities say investigations are also underway to determine what may have led to the shocking events.
For now, the community remains on edge as police work carefully to bring the matter under control and ensure the safety of the hostages.
