KwaZulu-Natal police have taken three more suspects into custody following a large copper cable theft on the South Coast, bringing the total number of arrests to eight.
Investigators say the cables, believed to include stock belonging to the municipality and Telkom, were being loaded onto two trucks at a storage site in Illovo, south of Durban. Officers swooped on the location after receiving a tip-off, intercepting the group before the vehicles left the property.
The stolen copper’s value is estimated at roughly R2 million. Police, working alongside ET Rapid Response as part of the SAPS/BAC E2 initiative, are continuing their investigation into possible wider syndicate links.
