The G20 National Education Indaba has officially kicked off in Cape Town, bringing together education leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders under the theme: “Taking the G20 to the People – A National Indaba for Advancing Quality Foundational Learning.”
The one-day gathering follows a series of provincial indabas held earlier this year, creating a platform to discuss pressing priorities in education. Key focus areas include equipping teachers for technology-driven classrooms and addressing the challenges of global mobility in learning.
This national indaba comes as South Africa holds the G20 Presidency, which it assumed in December 2024. The discussions in Cape Town will help shape the agenda ahead of the G20 Heads of State Summit, set to take place in Johannesburg in November.
By bringing these conversations closer to the people, the indaba aims to ensure that education reforms are not only discussed at the global level but also grounded in the realities of South Africa’s classrooms.
