A massive manhunt is underway for Jabulani Thabang Moyo, a trial-awaiting prisoner accused of killing two police detectives in Roodepoort on Friday, August 8.
Authorities say Moyo shot the officers—a warrant officer and a sergeant from the Florida police station—while they were transporting him from court. He then escaped, taking a state-issued firearm with him.
Police have described Moyo as armed and extremely dangerous, warning the public not to approach him. “He has no regard for life,” officers said, urging anyone with information to come forward.
To aid the search, a reward of R150,000 is being offered for information leading to his arrest. A specialised team, including crime intelligence, detectives, Gauteng tracking units, and the Hawks, is actively searching for him.
On Sunday, the National Police Commissioner will visit the families of the slain detectives, accompanied by senior police officials, to offer condolences and support.
Anyone with information on Moyo’s whereabouts is urged to contact Warrant Officer Rabosiwana from the Hawks on 072 844 4442.
