A 30-year-old woman was shot dead in Heideveld on Saturday, just two kilometres from where an anti-gun violence campaign, Silencing The Guns, was being launched in Manenberg.
The event, held on Women’s Day, aimed to address the surge in gun violence across the Cape Flats.
According to her family, the victim may have been targeted because she was a witness in a gang-related murder case. Police confirmed she was killed in a drive-by shooting and have launched an investigation.
Authorities have acknowledged the need to improve intelligence gathering, noting that some illegal firearms in the province are believed to be smuggled in via Namibia.
