South African police say they are hopeful that a conviction in the murder case of popular musician Oupa John Sefoka, widely known as DJ Sumbody, will bring some measure of closure to his grieving family.
Four suspects have been arrested in connection with his killing and appeared recently before the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday next week.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe commended the combined efforts of the political killings task team and the Gauteng organised crime unit, describing their work as instrumental in building a strong case. “This was not a simple case—it required patience and careful gathering of evidence,” she said.
According to Mathe, key links have been made between the weapons used in DJ Sumbody’s murder and other criminal cases, including one involving Armand Swart. “There is overwhelming evidence against these suspects,” she added. “We’re hopeful this will lead to a conviction.”
The case remains under close watch, as both law enforcement and the public await justice for the late artist.
