The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation in the Free State is investigating a cash-in-transit robbery after a group of unknown people allegedly robbed an undisclosed amount of cash from a cash vehicle which was traveling from Botshabelo towards Bloemfontein on the N8 road around 17:20 on Thursday, 3 July 2025.
It is alleged that the robbers who were driving in a silver Mercedes Benz rammed the cash vehicle and fired shots. The driver of the cash vehicle was shot and injured on the right arm.
The suspects burned the Mercedes Benz and took firearms from the security guards before using explosives to open the safe. The suspects fled the scene in two vehicles, a white Toyota GD6 and a dark grey Ford Ranger.
