A 45 year old suspect was served with court summons by the Pretoria based Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team on Wednesday, 18 June 2025.
It is alleged that on 02 March 2020, the Director of Forensic Audit Unit at the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development received information about a certain service provider (suspect) who approached an official attached to Information Management System (IMS) unit within the department regarding a tender.
According to the Hawks Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Singo it was reported that the official met the service provider and in that meeting the suspect tried to influence him for a gratification in the bidding of a tender process which was to the estimated value of R120 million.
The official declined the request by the suspect. It was further alleged that after the official left the meeting, the suspect followed him and placed a package full of money inside his vehicle. The suspect then drove off after leaving an amount of R50 000 inside the official’s vehicle.
The matter was then reported to the Hawks for further investigation culminating in the summons being served on 18 June 2025. The suspect is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 10 July 2025.
