Northern Cape Division of the High Court granted Hawks Asset Forfeiture Investigation and National Prosecuting Authority‘s Asset Forfeiture Unit, a forfeiture order to two vehicles with a combined value of R265 000.
According to the Northern Cape Hawks Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Tebogo Thebe in the first case that happened on the 5 October 2024 in Griekwastad in the Northern Cape, a farmer called Police to a scene where a silver Colt 2000 bakkie was found with dead steenbok on the back resulting from illegal hunting. The Police seized the vehicle while arresting the suspect. A forfeiture order of R85 000 was granted for the vehicle.
In the second matter, Hartswater Police in the Northern Cape on the 26 July 2024 were called to a murder scene, allegations are the suspect drove over the victim, killing him instantly. Police confiscated the vehicle used, a Toyota bakkie valued at R180 000.
Both matters were referred to the Hawks Asset Forfeiture Investigation, together with the Asset Forfeiture Unit for further investigation which resulted in the successful granting of a forfeiture orders.
