Free State Policespokesperson Lt Col Thabo Covane said the discovery comes after the information about a missing person, Puleng Motlodi (19) was followed up by the police. A Missing Person file was opened during October 2023 at Selosesha Police Station, even though Puleng’s relatives lost contact with her from July 2023.
The police traced one person of interest in the case and interrogated him. Information gathered by the police revealed that the suspect, together with three other males, met Puleng in Zone 3. One of the four males, 40 year old ring leader who is currently incarcerated, knew Puleng and he ordered others to grab her. The group kidnapped the victim and took her to Zone 5, where they sat and consumed alcohol and smoked dagga.
It is alleged that the ring leader later became aggressive and strangled the life out of the victim. He then, with the help of the suspect, rolled the lifeless body of the Puleng and took her to the toilet.
On Monday 19 May 2025, the interrogated suspect led the police to a house in Zone 5, Selosesha. The police arrived at the house and dismantled the toilet pointed out to them by the suspect. A search inside the sewage led to the discovery of a Black windbreaker, a jersey and female underwear. The police also discovered limb bones [legs and arms] and a human skull and collected the remains for further examination.
The Missing Person file, which was opened when Puleng Motlodi (19) was reported missing by her family, was then changed to Kidnapping and Murder case.
The 36 year old suspect was arrested; the 40 year old convict who was out on parole for Robbery but is back behind bars after committing Business Burglary will be charged. Two other suspects will be arrested soon.
