Foreign national nabbed with explosives at Beitbridge Border
A 28-year-old Zimbabwean man was arrested at the Beitbridge Border Post on Friday morning, 16 May, after being caught with a large cache of illegal explosives.
The arrest followed a routine vehicle inspection at around 06h30, when a police sniffer dog alerted authorities to suspicious red 50kg polyester bags in a trailer hitched to a white Toyota Quantum. Upon inspection, members of the Musina Explosives Unit discovered six reels of detonating fuses, 2,505 Superpower units, 90 blasting cartridges, and 100 Carmex connector capped fuses.
The suspect has been charged under the Explosives Act and is scheduled to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 May. Authorities confirmed that the explosives have been secured, with samples sent for forensic analysis. Preliminary findings indicate the contraband was likely destined for Cape Town.
